Not All Websites Are Equal
Anyone can create a website. A professional-looking design does not mean the information is accurate. You need to look beyond appearances to evaluate a website's credibility.
Website Evaluation Framework
- About page: Who runs the site? What are their credentials?
- Contact information: Is there a real address and phone number?
- Sources: Does the site cite its sources?
- Date: When was the content last updated?
- Design: Is it professional? (Though design alone is not enough)
- Domain: .edu, .gov, .org, or .com? Each has different implications
- External reputation: What do other sources say about this site?
Website Credibility:The degree to which a website can be trusted to provide accurate, reliable information.
Imposter Sites
Some sites are designed to look like legitimate news organizations but are actually partisan or fake news sites. Always check the domain carefully — "ABCnews.com.co" is not the same as "ABCnews.com."
