The AI Content Revolution

AI can now write articles, generate photorealistic images, produce convincing audio, and create video of people saying things they never said. Understanding how AI generates content is now a foundational information literacy skill.

How Language AI Works

Large language models are trained on enormous datasets of text. They learn statistical patterns — which words tend to follow which other words — and use those patterns to generate text that sounds fluent and coherent. They do not "know" things the way humans do; they predict what text should come next.

Hallucination:When an AI generates information that sounds plausible and confident but is factually incorrect or entirely fabricated. AI can hallucinate fake citations, nonexistent people, false statistics, and events that never happened.
AI Sounds Confident Even When Wrong

One of the most dangerous characteristics of AI-generated text is that it sounds equally confident whether it is accurate or completely fabricated. Confidence is not a signal of accuracy.

  • Text: AI can write articles indistinguishable from human writing
  • Images: AI generates photorealistic images of nonexistent people and events
  • Audio: Voice cloning can replicate any person's voice
  • Video: Deepfake technology can put words in real people's mouths
