Sharing Is an Act of Amplification

When you share information, you amplify it — potentially reaching hundreds or thousands of people. This makes sharing a responsibility, not just a casual action.

The Spread of Misinformation

Misinformation spreads primarily through well-meaning people who share content without verifying it. Research shows that most misinformation is spread not by malicious actors but by ordinary people who found something interesting, surprising, or emotionally resonant and shared it without checking.

Misinformation:False or inaccurate information shared without intent to deceive — as opposed to disinformation, which is deliberately false.

Before You Share: A Checklist

  1. Have I verified this claim with a reliable source?
  2. Do I know who originally published this?
  3. Is this source known for accuracy?
  4. Am I sharing because it is true, or because it confirms what I believe?
  5. Could sharing this cause harm?
Slow Down

The urge to share quickly is often driven by emotional reaction. Slowing down — even for 30 seconds to verify a claim — dramatically reduces the chance of spreading misinformation.
