Who Would You Ask?

If you had a toothache, would you ask your friend or a dentist? The dentist is an expert — they know more about teeth. That makes them a more trustworthy source!

What Is a Trustworthy Source?

A trustworthy source is one that gives you accurate, honest information. Not all sources are equally reliable. Some are written by experts; others might be wrong or even made up.

Signs of a Good Source

  • Written by an expert or someone who knows the topic well
  • Published by a school, library, museum, or trusted organization
  • Has a date so you know the information is recent
  • Can be checked against other reliable sources
  • Does not try to trick you or make you feel scared
Reliable:Trustworthy and accurate — you can count on it to be correct.
Look for the Author

Good sources tell you who wrote them. If you cannot find an author, be extra careful — it might not be reliable.
