Asking Good Questions
Before you search for information, it helps to think about exactly what you want to know. A specific question is easier to answer than a vague one.
- Vague: "Tell me about dogs"
- Better: "What do golden retrievers eat?"
- Vague: "Space stuff"
- Better: "How far away is the moon from Earth?"
Keyword:An important word you type into a search to find information about a topic.
Using Keywords
When you search online or in a library catalog, you use keywords — the most important words in your question. For "What do penguins eat?", good keywords are "penguins" and "food" or "diet."
Try Different Words
If your first search does not work, try different words. "Penguin food" and "what penguins eat" might give you different results — try both!
