What Is Giving Credit?

When you use someone else's words, ideas, or pictures, you need to say where they came from. This is called giving credit. It is the honest and fair thing to do.

Credit:Saying who created something or where information came from.

How to Give Credit

  • Say the author's name: "According to Dr. Smith..."
  • Name the book or website: "I found this in National Geographic Kids"
  • In a report, list your sources at the end

Giving credit is simple. Just say where you got your information. "I read this in a book called..." or "My teacher told me..." — that is all it takes!
